Composition and Analysis

Sulfadimidine 100% water soluble powder


Ingredients:
Sulfadimidine sodium — 1000 mg (per gram).


Description:
Sulfadimidine is primarily bactericidal and is active against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms, including: E. coli, Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Salmonella spp., Pasteurella spp. and Eimeria spp. It is effective against sulfadiazine. It inhibits microbial growth by blocking bacterial purine synthesis.


Areas of use:
It is used to treat gastrointestinal, respiratory, and genitourinary tract infections caused by sulfadimidine-sensitive microorganisms. These include:

  • In cows, calves, sheep, goats, pigs and birds E. coli, Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Pasteurella Infections caused by spp.

  • In birds Eimeria Coccidiosis caused by spp.


Prohibitions:

  • Sensitivity to sulfonamides.

  • Use in animals with severe kidney or liver disease is prohibited.

  • It should not be used in animals with blood diseases and active microbiological digestion processes.


Side effects:

  • Crystallization in the urine (crystalluria), anemia, leukopenia (decrease in white blood cells) and thrombocytopenia (decrease in blood clots).


Dosage and method of administration:
It is given orally.

  • Cows, calves, sheep and goats: 10 grams per 100 kg of body weight for 3-7 days.

  • Pigs: 1 kilogram per 2000 liters of drinking water for 3-7 days.

  • Birds: 1 kilogram per 2000 liters of drinking water for 3 days or according to the 3-2-3 scheme (given for 3 days, not given for 2 days, then given again for 3 days).

Note: When administered to ruminants, there may sometimes be temporary disturbances in ruminal function and microflora activity. However, this usually resolves spontaneously.


Waiting time:

  • For meat:

    • Cow, calf, sheep, goat: 12 days.

    • Pigs and poultry: 15 days.

  • For milk: 5 days.

Not suitable for use in poultry egg production.
