The mechanism of action is at the ribosomal level. When administered orally, only a small part (<5%) is absorbed systemically, while the rest remains in the digestive tract of the animal as an active substance. Neomycin is not inactivated by enzymes or food. Due to these properties, neomycin is an effective antibiotic for the prevention and treatment of infections caused by neomycin-sensitive bacteria in the digestive tract.
