Oxytetracycline hydrochloride — 400 mg
Description:
Oxytetracycline belongs to the group of tetracyclines and has a bacteriostatic effect against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including Bordetella spp., Bacillus spp., Corynebacterium spp., Campylobacter spp., E. coli, Haemophilus spp., Pasteurella spp., Salmonella spp., Staphylococcus spp. and Streptococcus spp., as well as Mycoplasma spp., Rickettsia spp. and Chlamydia spp. Oxytetracycline inhibits bacterial protein synthesis. It is excreted mainly in the urine, with small amounts also excreted in bile and milk.
Areas of use:
It is used to treat gastrointestinal and respiratory tract infections caused by bacteria sensitive to oxytetracycline. The bacteria causing the infection are: Bordetella spp., Bacillus spp., Corynebacterium spp., Campylobacter spp., E. coli, Haemophilus spp., Pasteurella spp., Salmonella spp., Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Mycoplasma spp., Rickettsia spp. and Chlamydia spp.
Animals used: calves, sheep, goats, pigs and birds.
Prohibitions:

Sensitivity to tetracyclines.

Should not be used in animals with impaired renal and/or hepatic function.

It should not be used together with penicillin, cephalosporin, quinolone and cycloserine.

Should not be used in animals with active microbiological digestion.
Side effects:

Tooth discoloration in young animals.

Sensitivity reactions.
Dosage and method of administration:
It is given orally.

Calves, sheep and goats: twice a day, 1 gram per 20–40 kg body weight, for 3–5 days.

Pigs and poultry: 1 kg per 2000 liters of drinking water for 3–5 days.
Note: It is intended only for calves, lambs and goats whose ruminal system has not yet been developed.
